Message from the Chair - March 2014

On Tuesday, March 4, Democrats from all over the county will gather for this year’s caucus. It’s an event that happens every two years, and is an integral part of our Democracy in this country. A caucus gives you and your neighbors the opportunity to choose the candidates you want to represent you in the general election, to elect delegates to the county and the state assemblies, and to discuss and take action on the issues that affect you, your family and your community.

A caucus is at the very heart of the Democratic Party because we believe that the voice of the entire community should be heard. At a Democratic caucus, we encourage everyone to bring in their ideas and to talk with their neighbors about what matters- what’s important to preserving what our founders fought for- Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Message from the Chair - January 2014

It's a new year … It's an even numbered year.

A new year brings new opportunities to get involved in the election process and in your community. An even numbered year brings Caucus, Assembly, selection of delegates and a chance to run for office in Douglas County.

Several US and state offices are up for election or re-election. The state races that have the most impact for Douglas County are Andrew Romanoff for State Representative to the US Congress in CD6, Naquetta Ricks for Regent of UC in CD6 and Vic Meyers for Representative to the US Congress in CD4. For more information on candidate races, go to www.DouglasDemocrats.org/candidates.

Message from the Chair - November 2013

While the results of Tuesday’s election were disappointing, Democrats in Douglas County are committed to advancing our public schools. We believe that educating all children is a public trust and that our children are not profit centers.

Outside interests such as the Koch brothers and their allies, who want to privatize our schools, poured over a million dollars into the recent school board race and were barely able to convince just over half the voters to vote for their candidates.
